I’m a retired Coast Guard Master Chief of 28 years. In 2025 I was in need a legal counsel for a Coast Guard Board of Correction of Military Records (BCMR). My search for council ultimately led me to a Midwest Military and Veterans Law firm. I called them and was informed someone would get back to me at first availability. I soon received a call back from attorney Brian Schenk. In my initial conversation with Brian I was moved by the sincerity and interest that was shown to me as a person regarding my concerns over case. His personal demeanor really made me feel as if I was the only client that he had. There was some anxiety on my behalf, but Brian put me at ease with clear communication regarding some of the complex legal and law information I was trying to navigate, and used friendly terms that made matters clear for me to understand. He was patient and guided me through all the resources I would need to put my case together helping me every step of the way. I personally was impressed with his meticulous sense of detail and fact checking. His recognition for accuracy and his attention to detail honestly made me feel more like family than a client. I felt as a lawyer he applied strong and powerful analytical reasoning while problem solving my case concentrating on the essential facts, and relevant law and legal information. All of our communications were kept on subject and were productive only scheduling meetings when necessary, and yet answering my questions anytime I had one promptly. I found Brian to be polished and poised in his professionalism, and practice. He displayed industriousness, conscientiousness, and dependability to me in conversations, and in all the documents he submitted on my behalf. All of my submissions for my BCMR case were submitted and reported on time. Brian is very trustworthy in my opinion. He strongly adheres to all ethical principals that reflect the highest standards of a professional, and as a person while representing me. I particularly respected his commitment to honesty, integrity and fairness. From the start he established clear expectations and did not over deliver or over promise, and used every resource that was available to him to help me with my case. Over the last year of interacting with Brain I was consistently pleased with all the thoughtful consideration he gave while forming my personal or legal opinions. I felt he effectively applied everything in his educational back ground to support the evidence of my case. I conclude my review by saying if your looking for an empathetic lister that has the ability to create an environment that makes you feel as if you’re the only client he has then this is your guy. Brian’s professionalism is warm , genuine, sincere. He always maintained a sense of humor and avoided unrealistic expectations or promises. He remained optimistic under all circumstance and conditions of my case, and always displayed a calm and even temperament no matter what was presented to us as a team. Brian will keeps you abreast of the latest legal findings or rulings regarding your case as they present themselves. His display of the confidence to face the tough leadership challenge of the BCMR board requirements, and panel reviews is second to none in my opinion. I highly recommend his services. You did a great job Brian. My family and I thank you dearly. James Ramirez Master Chief (USCG Ret.)
